Music: Bass Gear
Here's some information about my current gear.
Believe it or not, I've reached a stage where I am almost content with my setup. I used to ramble here about having GAS*, but in reality, I've never been much of a gearhead.
My main bass is a Tobias Growler 4-String. Note that this image has been stolen from Gibson ;-)
I like this bass a lot, mainly for its tone. It has a pretty versatile Bartolini quad-coil pickup going anywhere from deep punch to hi funk. It's a pity that they aren't produced anymore. Read more about Tobias and Gibson in this interesting article.
Unfortunately, the fabrication quality is not nearly as good as its reputation: The neck was knocked out by the Southeast-Asian climate, and the truss rod really was a joke. GIM-Guitars made a new neck for me. I used the opportunity to get a (malaysian) ebony fretboard instead of rosewood. The neck itself is made of nyato wood.
My main amp is a Glockenklang Soul together with a Glockenklang Duo Box. I think they are performing very well. The amp has a very pure sound and seems to transport the sound directly from the fingers to your ear, without messing around with it. And I love my Korg DTR-2.
I got a BOSS DR-5 via a friend from ChurchBass. It's very useful for practicing, although I don't use the sequencing facilities so much. Currently, I'm also using a fretless borrowed from a friend.
This
iswas my Hohner PJ bass. As the name indicates, it is - or rather tries to be :-) - sort of a mixture between a Precision and a Jazz bass. I bought it used from a friend when I started bass playing. It has served me well, although its tone and playability are lacking (cf. GAS above ;-)).
