Music: Sommernachtstraum
![]()
Sommernachtstraum (German for Summernight's dream) is a tune I wrote at the end of the year 2000. Creating an unique atmosphere by featuring arabic sounding melodies over repetitive chord structures, it was first publicly performed by the jazz trio Hope You Smile in February 2001 and received a warm response by the audience.
In June 2001, we had the opportunity to do a recording at the studio of the School of Audio Engineering, Cologne, Germany. For this occasion, I wrote an arrangement of Sommernachtstraum for the trio plus flügelhorn, trombone and tenor saxophone. During this process, the piece evolved into being even more minimalistic, and we also decided to take it slower than our usual trio version. Despite the very short recording time, we managed to capture a nice recording. Thanks very much to Paddy for making this possible and to all the musicians who contributed to this recording. Many thanks also to Ina Becker for her drawings!
