07/07/2001: Pulau Ubin: Singapore, 40 years ago
A few days before the lectures started, the "Singapore Survival Tour" brought some variety. This tour was organised by local students as part of the exchange student orientation programme. On a sunny saturday afternoon, we headed towards Pulau Ubin, an island east of the Singaporean peninsula.
As group of about ten to fifteen exchange students, we explored the island on (rented) bicycles, together with a few local students. Pulau Ubin is only sparsely populated, so there is much space there for a change. Most inhabitans are quite poor and live in wooden housings. The island is filled with jungle and some of the rivers there reminded me of pictures of Vietnam. We concluded the outing by enjoying fresh coconuts -- tasty!
There are no pictures of this outing: These have been deleted by a buggy software program...
