04/08/2001: Blood donation drive and bass fellowship
After working on the stack in my e-mail inbox in the morning, I went for one of the last adventures in our over-civilised world: Blood Donation! In Singapore, only about two percent of the population dare donating blood, and I have to confess that for me, it was the first time as well...
This blood donation drive has been organised by the church I attend here (Cornerstone Community Church) and also took place in the church building. After filling in a red cross questionnaire about my medical history and sexual preferences (!) and waiting some time, I found myself lying on a stretcher directly under a banner with a quotation from the book of Isaiah. I know nobody who hasn't done this before will believe me, but it really doesn't hurt :-) The most painful thing in the whole process was removing the band-aid on the next day. I felt a bit dizzy afterwards -- a sure sign that not eating very much before a blood donation is a bad thing -- but that went away soon.
In the evening, I visited Eugene in his flat (together with his girlfriend Suzanne). After an asian-swabian dinner, we had some serious bass fellowship. His Status fivestring is a really good reason to buy a five- or sixstring myself, if it weren't for my account balance... We rounded off the evening by watching fellow ChurchBassist member Norm Stockton's bass video "Groovin for Heaven II"
