As part of the Percussion Techniques class at the National
Institute of Education, I went to a concert of the Singapore Symphonic
Orchestra where our percussion instructor, Jon Fox, performed a
concerto for percussion and wind band. Being my first delve into music
inspired by asian traditions here in Singapore, this evening was a
very interesting experience. The programme included the Overture
to Benvenuto Cellini by Berlioz, the Journey through a
Japanese Landscape (for percussion and wind band) by Thea
Musgrave and the Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21 by
Chopin, performed by Dan Wen Wei, a very impressive pianist of chinese origin.
