New: Try out the web dictionary

New: The perl modules on CPAN have been updated.

jianzidian is a Chinese/English dictionary for the Sword project (a GPL bible software project). It is based on the freely available CEDICT dictionary files.

Words are indexed by chinese characters (module ZhHanzi), pinyin (ZhPinyin) and english translation (ZhEnglish). Please read the accompanying README file for more information.

Version history:

13/08/2002 0.5 - Used Lingua::ZH::CEDICT::HanConvert for the conversion of traditional to simplified characters. Some dictionary changes.

05/08/2002 0.4 - Used Encode::HanConvert for the conversion of traditional to simplified characters. Various smaller dictionary changes.

27/07/2002 0.3 - First public release

Contacted Erik E. Peterson and got 'OK' for distribution of the modules
Modules now display traditional characters, with simplified version in parentheses.
Added many more english search terms
The English module now displays all English translations for a given character. This is redundant, but helps to understand the Chinese translations better.
The Hanzi module now contains search keys in simplified and traditional characters
@LINKed duplicate entries to save space
Complete rewrite of underlying perl code (look out for Lingua::ZH::CEDICT, soon on your nearest CPAN mirror...)

14/06/2002 0.2 - First beta (private for sword-developers)

0.1 - Initial Revision

Current Issues:

The Hanzi index is not usable for the MS-Windows (tm) version of the Sword Project. This will have to wait till the 'Unicode'ification of Sword.
Mistakes in simplified characters?
